Two top Nigerian music artistes, Omah Lay and Tems were arrested by the Ugandan Police shortly after their performance at an event on Saturday night at Speke Resort, Wavamunno Road, Kampala, Uganda.
Omah Lay, the ‘Bad Influence’ crooner tweeted on his official account that he had been arrested by the Ugandan police.
In the early hours of Monday, Decdmber 14, 2020, a picture went viral of Omah Lay in a Ugandan police station with Tems, as rumours have it that their arrest was orchestrated by a Ugandan artiste who wasn’t invited to the show thus, he protested about the show with relation to COVID-19 guidelines.
The Ugandan police tweeted that the release of Omah Lay and Tems on bail had been rejected after the OPP signed off on their case for acts that could spread the coronavirus, thus they will be reprimanded till Wednesday 16th. A few hours later, Omah Lay and Tems were seen appearing in court in handcuffs.
Since this picture went viral, the Nigerian Twitter community have gone wild as the hashtags #freeOmahlay and #FreeTems have since gotten over 20,000 tweets on the microblogging app.
Omah Lay’s last tweet was emotional as he said the @NigerianMFA have tried to make contact for their release, but the Ugandan government won’t give them ears. The talented artist was asking if there something he isn’t aware of that they want him to take a fall for.
