A rape victim, Ms. Dorothy Edet has opened up on her various rape experiences, as one of the encounters she reveals was with her pastor who had raped her when she went for a deliverance service.
Dorothy Edet made this revelation to a cross-section of journalists in Uyo on Wednesday on the sides of a peaceful march to demand justice for the Late Miss Iniubong Umoren who was Kidnapped, raped, and murdered while in search of a job, while condemning rape, child abuse, and gender-based violence in strong terms. She says she is a rape survivor who has had several experiences which started at the tender age of 7 when she was gang-raped, with other encounters between ages 10 to 12, 20, and 24.
“I am a survivor of rape. At the age of 7, I was gang-raped and so how a woman dresses up has nothing to do with rape. At the age of 10, I remember my uncle telling my mum he was going to send me to school. He took me home and sexually abused me from age 10 to 12. At the age of 15 when I went to sell bananas for my mum and after they finished eating the bananas and groundnuts, they still raped me. At the age of 20, when I went to sell garri, I was gang-raped again and they took my money and the garri. At the age of 24, I was raped by my pastor who said he wanted to do deliverance for me. He didn’t do the deliverance but rape me.”
This episode with her pastor was shortly followed by another five days after as she was ganged-raped a third time by a group of thieves who she states almost destroyed her body, as she was told by people not to say anything about the matter, she adds.
“Five days after being raped by the pastor, I was gang-raped by a group of thieves who nearly spoilt my body, and what did people say? Don’t say anything. When you keep saying, victims should not say anything do you know the psychological trauma that they pass through? This thing is painful, you don’t know what we face.”
On the job interview scam that led to Iniubong Umoren’s death, Dorothy further stated that she would have also been a victim of the killer, Uduak Akpan who had also asked her to come for an interview but she missed death by the whiskers because she had no transport money to embark on the trip.
“I would have been a victim of this killing because this same guy (Uduak Akpan) asked me to come for an interview because I have been searching for a job to survive. The job I had couldn’t take care of me and my family, so I needed something better. But I thank God that I didn’t attend the interview because I didn’t have transportation. That means this guy would have also killed me!”
Dorothy demanded capital punishment for rapists and further urged victims and their mothers not to keep quiet, else will encourage rapists to continue in their dastard act which has turned young men and women into homosexuality.
It can be recalled that on the 21st March 2021, Dorothy had attempted to commit suicide by drinking some concoctions and swallowing certain pills, but her life was saved after she was rushed to the hospital by neighbours. She had later been trolled on social media the act.
