The Kano State government being led by governor Umar Ganduje has dethroned Muhammad Sanusi II as Emir.
The decision was taken at a special meeting held on Monday by the Kano State Executive Council which further gave the approval for his dethronement.
In a press release signed by the Secretary of State Government, Usman Alhaji, the Sanusi Lamido was removed for “total disrespect to lawful institutional to the office of the State Governor and other lawful authorities”, it stated.

“The removal was reached in other to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion, and prestige of the Kano emirate built over a thousand years.
Before the dethronement, a fight broke out during a debate on the report of the Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Ant-Corruption Commission at the State House of Assembly on Monday over the issue.
It can be recalled that Sanusi Lamido, a former CBN and Governor Ganduje have been at loggerheads even before the 2019 election.
