Atiku Abubakar Elected PDP Presidential Candidate


Atiku Abubakar, the former vice President of Nigeria has been elected the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He emerged the Party’s flag bearer at a PDP national convention, held Saturday and Sunday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Mr. Atiku defeated 11 other aspirants with a total of 1,532 votes to win the ticket for PDP’s most competitive primaries since 1998.

Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto State came second and scored 693 votes, followed by Senate President Bukola Saraki who came third with 317 votes.

Atiku thanked PDP for choosing him and this is victory for all. He added that “the task to get Nigeria working again starts now.”

The Adamawa-born politician whose quest for Nigeria’s presidency has seen him vie for the top office since 1992.

His victory sets him as the main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election.
