Excitement rented the air on Friday, June 7, 2019 as the Akwa Ibom State owned ‘Ibom Air’ made its first commercial flight from the Victor Attah International Airport.
In a brief remark by the State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo, he congratulated the good people of Akwa Ibom State for “recording this feat of historic proportions.”
“Today’s occasion is a watershed moment for us as a people. Never in the history of this nation or indeed anywhere else in Africa that I can recall, has a State Government gone into airline operations. Akwa Ibom on the collective achievement.”
“The launch of this maiden flight by Ibom Air is a testament to the vision of rapid industrialization based on the three gateways: Land, Sea and Air that I have been emphasizing.”

The maiden Ibom Air commercial flight CRJ 900 5N-BWM, took off from Uyo to Lagos. It was witnessed by the Akwa Ibom people from across different works of life.
