Universal Music Launches Def Jam Africa, Signs 9 Artistes to its Flagship Roster


Global entertainment leading company, Universal Music Group has launched Def Jam Africa, its new label division within the continent dedicated to representing “the best hip-hop, Afrobeats and trap talent in Africa.

The announcement was made on Tuesday via the label’s official Twitter account.

“Universal Music Group announces the launch of Def Jam Africa

The new label group dedicated to supporting the best in African Hip-hop talent and culture across the continent with the some of Africa’s most influential artists and MC’s.”



Music talents signed to the Def Jam Africa roster.

Based in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria, Def Jam has gone ahead to sign talents across the continent on it’s roster and they include Boity (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Larry Gaaga (Nigeria) Nadia Nakai (South Africa). Others are Nasty C (South Africa), Tshego (South Africa), Tellaman (South Africa), Ricky Tyler (South Africa) and Vector (Nigeria).

Def Jam Africa says it will follow the blueprint of the iconic Def Jam Recordings label,” one of the most important hip-hop/R&B companies in history.
