Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr has made known his target for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Franco-German sight is on Nigeria clinching the Semifinal spot in the Mundial considering the West African Side has never progressed beyond the Round of 16 in three previous editions of the tournament.
While speaking to French Sports Newspaper L’Equipe, the Eagles Gaffer made reference to Nigeria’s last outing at the 2014 World Cup where Nigeria bowed out to France in the Round of 16.
‘’They are already out of the group stage to go to the round of 16, especially in 2014 when they faced the French team (0-2 defeat),
‘’We will try to do as well. Unfortunately, here, the ambitions are a little more excessive: the team must reach at least the semifinals. We have the ambition of the leaders to manage, even if I get along very well with the president (Amaju Pinnick), who came to get me.”
‘’There are many people at the Federation (NFF). As in all African countries, it’s never easy. But for now, it’s going very well.’’
The Super Eagles who recently moved up three spots in the latest FIFA rankings, defeated Zambia in Uyo to clinch a ticket to 2018 World Cup in Russia with a game in hand against Algeria.
Algeria will play host to Nigeria at bokaii in the last Group B World Cup Qualifier which is inconsequential to both parties as the Algerian side have only a point in the group.
