Telling historic stories will always play a major role in the pursuit of our future and this too as a way of shaping our minds. One of such is the women riot in colonial Nigeria which saw many of them take up arms against the government of the day.
This is currently re-enacted in Nollywood movie titled, 1929 – Women War. The film which is shot in Uyo features top and veteran actors. They include Sola Sobowale, one of the faces that made hits in Box Office hits; Wedding Party 1&2. Also on set is Ireti Doyle, a popular screen face from Tinsel, Fifty and also the Wedding Party fame. Veteran Sam Dede, one of Nigeria’s top male actor of the Isakaba hit equally makes the cast.
Others are, Becky Odungide, Enobong Ekwere, Ndifreke Umoren, Nancy Bassey and Uduak Odungide, Ngozi Okeke, Nene Antai also secure major roles in the film which promises to be a delight for blockbuster movie fans.
These star acts play alongside over 800 based Akwa Ibom Actors on set, who are mostly women.
The Film 1929 (Women War), produced by Mrs Ndy Akan and Directed by award-winning director, Moses Eskor is set on the Opobo women unrest of 1929 that claimed the lives of many women protesters across the Eastern Nigeria.
