Police Report Clears the Air on Alleged Assault by Akwa Ibom LG Boss

Barley about 48 hours after an Akwa Ibom council boss, Barr. Imoh Williams was suspended for alleged assault, the State Command of the Nigeria Police has issued a press report to clear the air over the purported assault.

“The attention of Akwa Ibom State Police Command has been drawn to a video which has gone viral. In the said video, two young men were seen beating up another young man in a dehumanizing manner. The Commissioner of Police, CP Zaki Ahmed has condemned the act in strong terms, and has therefore ordered a more discreet investigation into the matter. However, it is expedient to bring to the knowledge of the public the initial state of affairs before the video went viral” part of the statement read.

Although the State Police Commissioner, CP Zaki had condemned the act in strong terms and has ordered a more discreet investigation into the matter, Barr. Imoh Williams, council boss of Abak is yet to be convicted in the case.

Recall that Barr. Imoh Williams council boss of Abak had been asked to step aside as result of legislative orders by the state legislature and his next in command, Lady Benita Ukpe to assume his stead in administering the affairs of the Abak Local Government Area, the case is yet to be convicted by a competent court of jurisprudence.

However, CP Zaki Ahmed has not denied his knowledge about the purported assault, the press statement grossly forward to explain that Barr. Imoh Williams was not directly involved in the assault though it was perpetuated by his aide on protocols, Uduak Aniekan, a.k.a, Alele who was infuriated  as a result of the insults  rained on Barr. Imoh Williams by Godwin Abraham of Attai  Otoro who was owed the sum of 75,000 Naira only as a fee for decorating an event centre  for Barr. Imoh sometime in April. 2018.

“On the 9th of May, 2019, a case of robbery was reported by one Godwin Abraham Effiong, ‘m’ of Atai Otoro village, Abak Local Government Area through a petition against one Uduak Aniekan Sam Ekpo, ‘m’ and Nyakno Idongesit Ukpanah, ‘m’, all of Abak Local Government Area. The said petition was endorsed to SARS for investigation. During the course of investigation, it was discovered that the complainant (Godwin Abraham Effiong) is an event decorator, and the case he reported as robbery was assault and malicious damage. He asserted that sometime in April, 2018 he was contracted by the Executive Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Barr. Imoh William to decorate an event centre for the sum of seventy-five thousand naira (N75, 000.00), but was not paid”

The report put together by SP Odiko MacDon, Police Public Relations Officer has that though the case was reported  to be a criminal  case and not that of debt or assault by Godwin Abraham Effiong, both parties met and all inconveniences  resolved.

The said debt of 75,000 naira was paid by Barr. Imoh and other missed properties of a phone and a missing 50,000 Naira as claimed by Godwin Abraham.

The Akwa Ibom State command through her spokesman declined knowledge of a viral video that went round the internet where Godwin Abraham was highly molested by Aniekan, requested citizens of the State to be of good conduct as the police and other stakeholders will take legal actions to ensure that the case is pursued with judicial precedence and ensure that justice is done.

SP Odiko MacDon added that the command wishes to assure the good people of Akwa Ibom State that it will not tolerate any act of disrespect or violation of Human Rights of any citizen in any guise and therefore urges those who finds themselves in such situations to report same to the nearest Police Station immediately.
