Police Arrest Mr Macaroni, Protesters at Lekki Tollgate

The Nigerian Police have arrested popular online comic star and content creator, Debo Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni and others that came out for the scheduled protest against the reopening of the Lekki tollgate.

Recall that the Lagos state judicial enquiry into the lekki tollgate shooting had decided to hand over the lekki tollgate to the Lekki Concession Company (LCC) in a ruling that was considered by some to be hasty and premature considering the investigations were still ongoing. The protest on Saturday was a planned demonstration, called #OccupyLekkitollgate, for #EndSARS protesters to voice their disapproval of the ruling.

Security operatives were already stationed since Friday at the site of the proposed protest and were available to disrupt and arrest protesters on Saturday, the morning of the protest.

Mr Macaroni was among those arrested, although he claims he just came to observe what was going on at the protest. The protesters were later carried away in a “black Maria” to an undisclosed location.
