Onofiok Luke Advocates for Better Remuneration and Welfare Packages for Judicial Officers in Nigeria

An Akwa Ibom federal lawmaker member and Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Hon. Onofiok Luke has advocated for better remuneration and welfare packages for judicial officers in Nigeria.

Hon. Luke who is the Member representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency stated this during a panel session at the 4th African Union Day of Anti-Corruption with the theme: Fighting Corruption ” Through Effective and Efficient Judicial System”.

He who spoke on the subject “Innovative Anti-Corruption Reforms in Judiciary: Best Practices”, also called for the preservation of the sanctity of our courts and judicial authorities just as Executive is enjoying immunity under S308 of our constitution and the legislature enjoying privileges under the Legislative House( Powers and Privileges) Act.

The former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly further charged that only persons of impeccable character and proven integrity should be appointed as judicial officers.

In the light of the kidnap of judicial officers in the past months, Hon. Luke said that there should be increased security around judicial officers.
