— Presidency Nigeria (@NGRPresident) March 29, 2021
This should be the 12th time president Buhari UK is going on a medical check-up since he came into office in 2015.
According to Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina said President Buhari made the trip after a meeting with the countries security chiefs, adding that “the treatment will last for about two weeks maximum.”
The last time the Nigerian president departed Abuja to London was when he went to participate in the first UK-Africa Investment Summit that happened on 20 January 2020.
However, the last UK medical trip of Mr president happened on the 25th of April, 2019 when the office of the president said the “private trip” to London, will last for only 10 days.
The trip comes two days before the country’s doctors go on strike over unpaid salaries. It is Buhari’s first medical trip abroad since the pandemic, which stripped much of Africa’s elite of the option of flying to the U.K., France or India to see a doctor.
