The federal high court sitting in Lagos on Thursday, sentenced a former governor of Abia State and now Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu to 12 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of fraud, reports Guardian.
He was convicted alongside his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and his former Abia State director of finance, Ude Udeogu of N7.65billion fraud perpetuated during Kalu’s tenure as governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007.
The prosecution claimed that the N7.1 billion “formed part of the funds illegally derived from the treasury of the Abia State Government and which was converted into several bank drafts before they were paid into the said company’s account.”
The Court presided over by Justice Mohammad Idris also ordered the forfeiture of all assets of Kalu’s company, Slok Nigeria to the federal government.
Senator Kalu was prosecuted on 27 count charges by the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC.
