Last year, we had only 3 individuals that made our first ‘Hypestation Young Persons of The Year’, reviewing the impactful activities of youth brands and individuals for 2015.

For the 2016 review, we have decided to accommodate more young persons, hence allowing for more to be spotlighted and celebrated, increasing the number to six young persons.

As usual, this is inspired by sheer hard work, zeal and call to service. For us at Hypestation, we applaud and encourage young people who on their own take the bold step to bring about the change they desire to see, as they cause a paradigm shift which affects the minds of other young people.

Hypestation Nigeria is committed to showcasing individuals and brands that are driven by passion to impact in their immediate communities for sustainable development. Here is our choice of young persons of 2016.



Philip Asuquo

Phillip ‘Asuquotes’ Asuquo, the founder of Bloom Square PR and co-founder of Trifectra Studios. Bloom Square is a quintessential PR company for ambitious personalities/companies and a corporate event management company.

The ‘Futurist’ as he referred to, took Akwa Ibom and Nigeria by storm by organising PAQ SESSION, a live intellectual and thought leadership summit which focuses on inspiring with the theme ‘Mind disrupting’. This made a lot of impact when he toured in South-East cities of Uyo, Port-Harcourt and Enugu. The feedback from this event series was very impressive and impactful, raising a new generation of thoughtful young people.

He also consulted and re-branded the World Changers Conference and went ahead to manage the 2016 edition of the event to reach an optimal level, an event organised by Udeme Etibensi.

Before the end of December 2016, all of these earned him a spot in the list of 35 persons and brands to watch in 2017 by Nigeria’s foremost branding expert, Mr. Charles O’Tudor. The list had the likes of Richard Mofe-Damijo, Steve Harris, Ubi Franklin, Ayo Makun, Audu Maikori, Uche Nnaji, Chude Jideonwo amongst others.

For the records, Phillip is a brand strategist, Futurist and an event manager.



Asteroid Bassey

Uyo recorded series of entertainment events, music shows, talent hunt, amongst other industry activities. The ace TV-presenter was behind the scene, running some of the logistics of these events.

More so, he facilitated the performances of top Nigerian music acts at the Tilipia Island Resort, Abak. This brought an awakening in the entertainment industry in the state and a glimpse of hope for stakeholders and the people.


However, a few music talents were spotlighted through his promotion, and one of them is the raving Progress Effiong, the ‘Amen’ song singer.

Asteroid Bassey is a media personality, event manager, artiste and show promoter who runs Space Media Company.




Ella Obott

After she lost her mum to Breast Cancer, which was enough to get her sulk and broken down, she decided to pull herself together and vowed to impact her sphere of contact by starting an NGOꟷꟷNaomi Obot Foundation, to educate people about Breast Cancer.

She went further to organize several sensitization gatherings of women, especially the young, an awareness walk and campaign to push the message.

This has brought her to the forefront of the fight against the disease, as several NGO’s have come calling and partnered with her on other cancer related projects.

Ella could be referred to as one of Nigeria’s youngest women actively engaged in the fight against cancer. She is currently studying Political Science at the Akwa Ibom State University – AKSU.



Ekemini Ekerette

For many, having a proper and regular exercise routine has been tasking feat to achieve. This has been overcome with the assistance of Ekemini Ekerette, the young man responsible for raising the new ‘Fit-Fam’ community and fitness culture in the city of Uyo and obviously, you can’t talk about keeping fit without mentioning his name.

In the past year, he has helped many in the city of Uyo trim weight to have their ideal body shape, making them to become more effective in their daily life pursuit.

Ekemini was also instrumental to making Truppr, a community of fitness enthusiasts center present in Akwa Ibom with weekend exercise activities – walks, jogging and even hiking.

Similarly, he has been at the forefront of organising events that are aimed at developing and inspiring young people to realise their talent and God-given abilities through his House of Ambience brand.



Aniekem Uwah

In July 2016, Dr. Uwah became the chairman of Nigerian Medical Doctors association Akwa Ibom State chapter.

His emergence was seen as a turning point of the association as Dr Uwah’s main objective was to contribute his quota to help NMA achieve its corporate goal for the year through hard work, dedication and selflessness. Dr Uwah’s strategy in achieving these set goals includes making strong commitment towards team work and adhering strictly to the ethics of the profession, creating innovative leadership style and abiding by the NMA constitution.

Since assuming office as Chairman, and being saddled with daunting challenges that faced NMA, Dr Aniekeme Aniefiok Uwah has strived to change the image of the association to meet the yearnings and aspirations of its members as well as enhancing qualitative health care delivery for the people. This he achieved in just 180 days in office.

Dr Aniekeme Uwah and his team swiftly mobilised doctors in town to support victims of the Reigners Bible Church collapse. He is also the Chairman South South of the NMA.



Allen Effeh

The tourism sector in Akwa Ibom has been in an inactive state for several years now and requires drastic efforts to get it running.

Last year saw Allen Effeh, a Tourism consultant embarked on several expeditions with his team to daring locations, making insightful discoveries to expose more tourism potentials of the state to the world. They include the Nta Ikang beach after Ibeno beach, which changed the perception that Ibeno beach was the only functioning beach in the state.

Him and his team also embarked on the trip to the Blue river at Ukanafun, where the Blue and White river meets, to unravel the mystery behind the blue river. They also visited the Opobo island, the home of the popular King Jaja of Opobo.

Allen has been pushing tourism for the past 5 years in Akwa Ibom through his Ibom Tourism brand, with passion for sight-seeing, exploring and going on adventures.

He has over 10 years working experience in the tourism and hospitality sector and is the youngest General Manager of a 3-Star hotel in Eket.
