Following the increase in kidney related disease and to further strengthen healthcare delivery system, the Akwa Ibom State Government is organizing a 4-day training programme/capacity building for Doctors/Nurses on the use of the newly acquired Diapact CRRT Machine for Critically ill kidney patients with a road map to kidney transplant in Akwa Ibom.
This Diapact CRRT Machine has nine (9) functions and can be used nonstop for 3 days. It’s termed as the best mechanism in the world for the treatment of critically ill kidney patient.
The programme was kicked off on August 21, 2017, with a reception cocktail get-together/ brief interaction held at De’Castle Hotel, Uyo organised to welcome the guest speakers of the programme into the State. They include Prof. Arogundade and Prof. Badmus Tajudeen and Mrs. Fajobi – Renal transplant Nurse, all of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ife.
Day 2 held at the Akpan Isemin Hall, Government House Uyo, featured lectures on Renal replacement therapy by resource persons, General Overview of Renal Medicine in Akwa Ibom by the Renal Unit UUTH and a Demonstrations with the Diapact CRRT machine. On the last day hopes to have a possible demonstration using a patient at UUTH.
Participants numbering about 40 include Doctors, Renal and ICU Nurses and Renal Technicians were drawn from the Kidney Unit and Intensive Care Unit University of Uyo Teaching Hospital – UUTH and the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health/HMB.
It should be noted that Nigeria has only 7 of this machine and Akwa Ibom State has one for the now. Asides being used in treating the very ill kidney patients, it will bring about a more effective outcome in the overall management of kidney disease, although not used for kidney transplant.
This project is organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor (Medical)
