The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Ben Ayade, has decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressive Party (APC).
The Governor made this announcement on Thursday morning at the Government House, Calabar, during a meeting with six APC Governors in attendance.
The former PDP Governor was welcomed into the APC by other APC Governors, who arrived in the state capital, Calabar, on Wednesday to receive him. The APC delegation was led by Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni, the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the APC, alongside his Imo counterpart, Governor Hope Uzodima as well as the Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahai.
Before now, the South-South states were known to be an all PDP territory, as Professor Ayade’s defection might give the APC an in-road into the region.
This move might not be a surprise to many as there have been rumours and speculations of his romance with the ruling Party at the centre. It can also be recalled that Ayade was absent at the recently held PDP governor’s meeting at Ibadan.
