
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, has appointed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The announcement of Bawa‘s appointment was made in a statement on Tuesday by the presidential spokesperson, Mr Femi Adesina.
Abdulrasheed Bawa is currently the zonal head of the Lagos State office of the EFCC. In 2015, he was appointed to head the commission’s investigations into the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, a position he still holds. He is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in the investigation and prosecution of Advance Fee Fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, laundering & other economic crimes.
Mr Bawa, if confirmed, would be the first substantive head of the EFCC since the post was vacated by Ibrahim Lamorde in November 2015 and also the youngest at 40 years of age. His appointment is awaiting confirmation by the Senate.
