Over the weekend, the global spotlight was beamed on Akwa Ibom State as Norfin Group of companies officially launched her shipyard with her security vessel christened ‘NORFIN SWIFT’ at Ikot Isong, Oruk Anam LGA on Friday, January 29, 2021.

The Norfin Swift vessel which is reported to be the fastest in recent history, is built to tackle security challenges in our waterways.

In his opening remarks, Engr. Ini Ekong Charles Udonwa opined that seafaring is one of the most viable income spinning ventures in the world. Borrowing a leaf from Singapore, Engr. Udonwa called on the State government and indeed the citizens of the state to protect the multi-billion naira project as it will create more employment for the teeming youth of the State.

The Governor who was physically present as a special guest of honour applauded the host for bringing such an investment home and regretted the malicious damage caused the company by hoodlums while pledging government’s commitment to ameliorate the losses.

Responding to the gestures of Engr. Ini Ekong Udonwa, the president of the Association of Maritime and Offshore Workers (AMOW) Engr. Samuel Ekwere flanked by his vice, Pst. Jossy Ekpe, other Executives and members saluted the doggedness and foresight of Norfin Group boss and management promising to work with the company in terms of training, value chain services and linkage programmes.

Engr. Ekwere, however, charged the youth of Ikot Isong and the surrounding villages to protect the investment as bait to welcome more viable investments to the area.
