Farmers in Akwa Ibom State, have applauded Governor Udom Emmanuel, over what they described as improved power generation in the State.
The commendation came on Saturday, when over 40,000 Traders, Cooperative Societies and Beneficiaries of the Interest Free Loans of the State Government embarked on a Solidarity March to Government House, Uyo, to show appreciation to the State Chief Executive.
Speaking on behalf of the Farmers, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Micro Finance and Enterprise Development, Mr Ime Uwah, said that huge losses were usually incurred by farmers due to poor power supply, but however noted that the improved electricity output in the State has reduced wastages of farm produce, since they can now be preserved for future use.
“Your Excellency, the crowd that is here, are the people galvanizing Akwa Ibom State. We understand what you’re doing, especially, in the power sector. I represent the farmers and in farming, one challenge we have, is post harvest losses. We’re happy with what you’ve done for us. With the power you’ve provided, we can store our goods and use it the next day”, he said.
Uwah maintained that farmers in the State were impressed with Governor Emmanuel giant strides and are fully armed with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), to ensure he (the Governor) is reelected for a second term in Office.
“The people out there are ready to support you. In 2019, we’re going to come out with our PVCs and you will return to the Hilltop Mansion the second time”, he added.
The solidarity match took off from the prestigious Ibom Plaza Connection to Government House, led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters, Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael.
