7 Things You Need to Know about DevFestSS 2018 Happening in Uyo this Friday


With a few days left to go, everything is set to deliver the best Google Developers Group (GDG) conference experience possible. The fourth edition of DevFest South-South holding in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital on 16 November, 2018 has promised to be a pacesetter among the rest. Here are 7 things you need to know as regards the event happening this Friday in Uyo.


The Speakers

DevFest Uyo will host over 18 speakers from top tech companies in the country. With the Likes of Hanson Johnson (Start Innovation Hub) Mark Essien (Hotel.NG), Oscar Ekponimo (Chowberry), Aniedi Udobong (Google Nigeria) among them, it is going to be a life changing experience for startups and those already in business but looking for more insight to get to the top.


The Venue

Je-nissi Event centre, which is billed to be venue for this year’s #DevFestSSUyo sits at the heart of the city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The event hall has a sit capacity of 1000+, a glamorous stage, modern sound system and a conducive ambience. The landmark of the event centre is just a throw stone from the prestigious Ibom Hall in Uyo.

Previous Editions

The first edition of DevFestSS was held in Start Innovation Hub Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. In 2016, the city of Port Harcourt, River State played host, while the the Enyimba City of Aba, Abia State took picked a turn in 2017. Previous Editions of DevFestSS has proven impactful to individuals and companies who attended, as this year’s edition of DevFestSS which returns to Uyo will even do more, as it will host the largest number of speakers ever.

DevFestSS Aba housed 200+ attendees at the El-Dorado Event Center Aba, Abia State on Friday November 10, 2017. This year’s edition promises to be the biggest in terms of audience capacity and content as it targets 1000+ attendees from across the African continent.


Uyo as a city (Food, Serene, Security, Transportation)

Uyo is the capital of Akwa Ibom, Nigeria’s number one oil-producing State. It boasts of one of Nigeria’s best meals and they include Ekpang Nkwukwo, Atama, Afang, Edikang Ikong Soups which are even popular in other parts of the country.

Uyo is blessed with a serene atmospheric weather condition, like other Southern Nigerian States. It is termed one of the most peaceful places to reside in the country. Also, it has affordable and easy transportation due to the cities good road networks.



Participating Tech Companies

Asides being a Google event, DevFestSS will feature numerous top notch tech companies from within and outside Nigeria. The likes of Apollo – an American public equity firm, Hotels.NG – one of Africa’s biggest online hotels booking agency, Paystack – an Online payment platform and one of Nigeria’s leading e-Commerce brand, Andela – an international company that specializes in training software developer, InterSwitch and a host of others who will be looking out to hire great talents and also partner with start-ups.



One of the high point of DevFestSS 2018 will be the various sessions. It will have a total of 18 sessions which will be made up of 8 keynote lectures, 1 panel session and 8 breakout trainings by experts in different areas of technology. They include; Android, Programming, Web Development, Machine Learning/ Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality/Virtual and Cloud Technologies.
