
Annually, the second Thursday of October is set aside as World Sight Day to draw attention to blindness and vision impairment, one of the major Public Health issue which continues to plague many.
To also encourage a healthy sight, here are 5 effective routines to help you maintain good vision.
Regular Check-ups
The importance of regular check-ups cannot be over-emphasized. See an optometrist or ophthalmologist at least once a year and whenever you have eye problem.
Wear Protective Glasses
Always use protective eye wear when doing hazardous jobs or when under high intensity Sunlight
Eat Vegetables and Fruits
Eat fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A and carotenoids. They include carrots, paw paw, broccoli, lettuce, spinach.
Create Rest Time
Give rest to your eyes for about 20 seconds after staring at screens (phones and computers) for 20 minutes. You can make this a habit by engaging in other offline activities during these intervals and sleep regularly.
Exercise Regularly:
Several studies over the years have found connections between regular exercise and eye ailments such as cataracts, wet age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Exercise also helps to prevent some health related disease that may lead to bad eyesight. These diseases include; type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
