Following the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the 9 months strike after a concise agreement with the Federal Government, the Union has received N40 billion of it’s earned allowances.
In a post on Tuesday, 26th January 2020 via Twitter, ASUU informed the public of the release of their earned allowances by the Federal Government.
“The government has released 40 billion naira for the payment of earned academic allowances for varsity lecturers and earned allowances for non-academic staff.”
“Also, the government may release 30 billion naira revitalization funds to varsities by the end of the month. Of the 40 billion Naira, 10 billion naira was voted for the payment of earned allowances of senior staff association of Nigerian universities (SSANU) and non-academic staff union and technologist.”
“Although the non-academic staff have threatened strike over the sharing formula by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), the government said when a similar payment was made in 2019, they got 8 billion naira.”
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige who gave the update said the federal government has so far kept faith with the agreement between it and ASUU.
Students are advised to continue preparing for their forthcoming exams and treating their academics with utmost priority.
