Youth For Change Initiative (YOFCI), a front line youth focused organisation in Akwa Ibom State has said that signing of the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund (AKYDF) Bill into law by governor Udom Emmanuel will be his best achievement.
This statement was made by the Acting Executive Director of YOFCI; Amb. Peace Edem during the group’s AKYDF Bill grassroots sensitization trip to Obong Itam community, in Itu Local Government over the weekend.
While addressing the youths of the area, Amb. Peace Edem appreciated the executive Governor Udom Emmanuel for his various Youth friendly projects, but stated that the youth community through YOFCI is asking for a sustainable policy framework for youth development, such as the passage of the AKYDF Bill into law by the present 6th Assembly of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly (AKHA). “This will be one of the best achievement of this administration which will ensure their name is written in gold in the history of this State.”
“With a sustainable policy framework, this will interest international organisations and other donor agencies to support development of Akwa Ibomites, creating direct impact both on the State and its teeming youth population. Posterity will never forget the gesture done by this administration which can also increase the voting population of young people in favour of his re-election for a second term and the implementation plan of the bill”, he concluded.
The AKYDF Bill is currently awaiting public hearing after being moved to the committee level, handled by the House Committee on Youths and Security. It had earlier passed the second reading in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly since 27th April, 2017.
