Another round of protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites has been held, demanding the release of their spiritual leader, Sheik Al-Zacky Zacky who has been in continuous incarceration since 2015.
The protesting Shiites marched in large numbers to the National Assembly on Tuesday at about 1.15pm but were intercepted by a team of joint security personnel already waiting at the gate, reports The Nation.
The protest turned bloody after the protesters broke police barricade, disarming and shooting two policemen at the first entry gate (police gate).
A body of about 15-year-old boy was seen being carried by a member of the sect at the scene of the crisis around the Federal Secretariat.
Several cars and properties within and outside the National Assembly complex were also destroyed.
The incident occurred at 2pm while the plenary was ongoing and this led to the closure of all gates to the National Assembly premises and adornment of sitting by the Legislators.
