Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has rejected the results of last Saturday’s supplementary election in Pankshin south constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Chairman of the party, Mr. Raymond Dabo, called for the cancellation of the results, alleging that it was marred by irregularities.
INEC had on Saturday conducted a court-ordered supplementary election for the Pankshin south constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly.
The election was held at Longkag and Pyabor polling units of Chip ward where the Returning Officer for Pankshin South, Dr. Chris Vande, of the University of Jos pronounced Mr. Gideon Dashe of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.
He was said to have defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Mr. Istifanus Mwansat of the Peoples Democratic Party by 9, 985 votes to 9, 875 votes − a margin of 110 votes − but before the supplementary election was ordered, Meansat was leading with 842 votes.
However signs that all would not be well with the ejection was when the youth of the area who were mainly PDP loyalists contested the results for Pankshin south. They had disagreed on where the result should be announced.
While some insisted that it has to be taken to the council secretariat to be announced some said it must be at the ward level. Security officials had a hectic time controlling the restive youths.
It took the intervention by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Godwin Kwanga before the situation was calmed.
