The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has given reason for the power outage faced in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital and its environs for the past three days.
According to a press release on Tuesday by PHED’s Corporate Communications Manager, John Onyi, the current outage being experienced in Uyo and Eket is due to a faulty 132kv line belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.
“However, the technical crew from the TCN is already making frantic effort to ensure that the fault is fixed and as soon as that is done, normal supply will be restored”, he continued.
“PHED, therefore, appeals for the patience and understanding of its esteemed customers while waiting for the restoration of power supply.”
It can be recalled that less than two weeks ago, Akwa Ibom State also faced total blackout, following a protest by youths of Itu Local Government Area of the State over power supply issues in their communities. This had led to the blockade of the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s facility and sending away of its staff by the angry youths.
