Nollywood actor, Aniebiet Francis has teamed up with some of her friends, gospel singer Man of Praise, blogger Peasy Udo and Social Worker Nehture Edet to run the ‘Bride not Commodity, Campaign.

The objective of the campaign is to advocate for moderate and considerate marriage list from would-be bride’s family to the prospective groom, while saving the girl child from this new form of abuse.

It was strengthened when Upata Kingdom of Ekpeye ethnic groups in Ahoada-East LGA, Rivers State made the news for drafting its bride price constitution to regulate bride price list.

This concern was also addressed by Aniebiet Francis through her movie ‘The Final List’ released in 2017. The movie will serve as the official campaign material for ‘Bride not Commodity’ Campaign. It will be screened during the sensitization tours, with free copies shared to family and community heads.

The Final List

The team intend to visit the a couple of government agencies and high profile personalities for dialogue on this issue. They include Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. Others are Ministry of Women Affairs 5. Ministry of Information.

Sensitization will be taken to remote villages to speak on the consequences of this practice, while holding conversations on both electronic and social media to further drive the ‘Bride not Commodity’ Campaign.
