Legendary Nigerian Traditional Musician Dr. Uko Akpan is Dead

Nigeria’s legendary traditional musician, Dr. Uko Akpan has passed away on Monday, February 3rd, 2020 as news of his demise was confirmed by family sources.

The music icon, Chief Uko Akpan from Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State founded the Uko Akpan Cultural Group and was largely celebrated for his commitment to typically African pattern of music, hence was bestowed with degree of Doctor of Music Honoris Causa from the University of Uyo.

He realized his potential at the age of 15 and launched into it with all the zeal and zest and was brought to the limelight, Festac event.

Among his songs are ” Se Ukpono Se’jen Akpono Ette, Nse Agwo Anam Ari Dakwo Fun, Anyie Agwo Eku Abogho, Mkpa Asong anyen Abogho and Naira Udorji, Edemne Ema Agwo Inogho Uko’kpan”.

Uko Akpan had put in atleast 60 years in the industry and at the age of 84 the octogenarian was still active, singing and performing.
