Not fewer than 126 women in ward six in Uyo, were supported with a million naira to start up businesses by the Senior Special Assistant on Micro-finance and Enterprise Development to Governor Udom Gebrial Emmanuel, Mr. Ime Uwah.
It was gathered that the scheme is meant for uplifting the living standard of women in the community.
Ime Uwah, Speaking at the event said; “I have earmarked a million Naira for this initiative, and over 120 women will be assisted.”
“This is the first phase of the programme, and as many as 120 women will first benefit before the second phase, and the women in the second phase will soon receive theirs”.
He explained that he decided to assist the women out of his passion and commitment to ensure women in his community become self-reliant and contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the society.
He called on the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the assistance for the betterment of their lives and their families.
Also at the event was wife of the Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority, Mrs. Enobong Uwah, who assisted in presenting the wrappers and cash to the beneficiaries. She also advised them to make good use of the money so as to take their families above poverty line.
Earlier, youths across ward six in Uyo Local Government Area were hosted to New Year Celebration with Mr. Ime Uwah.
At the event, Uwah expressed his appreciation for their love and support to the Gov. Udom led administration while urging them to continue to support Gov. Udom till 2023.
Dignitaries that graced the event were People Democratic Party candidate for Uyo state constituency Hon. Anietie Eka, Ward six Councillor Hon. Uwem Effiong, Ward six chairman, Mr. Akan Eyo, former councillor Elder Patrick Effiong amongst others.
Highlights of the event were testimonies from over 80 youths who are beneficiaries of his twenty thousand naira monthly stipends.
