Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti state is said to have escaped death in the hands of security operatives who allegedly shot teargas at him as they blocked the entrance of the state government house in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state.
This development caused tension amongst residents of the state as they ran to safety.
According to a tweet by the Governor’s Special assistant on Public communications and new Media, Lere Olayinka on his Twitter handle he said that ‘Fayose is currently receiving treatment at govt house clinic after he was hit by teargas canister fired by the policemen.’
He went on to say that “the armed policemen still laying siege at the Govt House.”
This incidence took place during the peace walk as part of the campaign of the governor’s successor.
It can be recalled that the Federal Government through Inspector General had sent 30,000 police officers to Ekiti State ahead of the Gubernatorial elections holding on Saturday July 14, 2018.
