The Ekiti State Government has begun the publication of the names and photographs of convicted sex offenders in the State.
In a public announcement made available online on Friday, the move is in response to the frequency of reported cases of Gender-based violence and sexual abuse in Ekiti.
“This is part of the proactive measures deployed by the State Government to rid Ekiti State of all forms of violence against Women and Children”, it said in part.
The enforcement commenced when the State’s Ministry of Justice made a Public Notice on the status of Reverend Asateru Gabriel, a former Anglican priest who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Federal Prisons, Ado Ekiti for the Sexual Abuse of a seven-year old girl.
Other additional measures to curb Sexual Violence in the State include:
Pasting the Photographs of convicted sex offenders in prominent public spaces, showing their photographs on Ekiti State Broadcasting Service and announcing their names on Radio Stations in the State, Upload the Sex Offenders photograph on the website of the Ministry of Justice and a compulsory psychiatric tests for all persons for the offence of Child defilement.
