After Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi’ites, was denied bail yesterday by the Kaduna court, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has revealed that the cost of feeding the man has been on the high side.

Lai Mohammed while addressing the state house correspondents after the FEC meeting said, ”It cost the Federal government N3.5 million every month to feed El-Zakzaky.”

The transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi, jokingly interjected and mocked the figures saying “then you people need to take me in o” and further added that he can take N500,000 monthly to be held in prison by the government.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December of 2015 and this means the government has spent N115,000 daily and about N126m yearly to feed him for the 3 years he has been detained.
