Over the years, the name Ekaette is usually referred to one who is a housemaid or female hooker that hails from the Ibibio/Efik speaking area of Southern Nigeria, precisely Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
The Ibibio word ‘Ekaette’ which started as a pet name and has come to stay, simply means “Father’s Mother”, proves the bearer’s endearment by her parents, as the child likely has a striking resemblance of her paternal grandmother or gives them something to about the granny.
To change the narrative and perception earlier stated about the name at the beginning of this piece, Dikans an alternative and fusion artiste drops a new piece titled – ‘Ekaette’.
Dikans says the song is inspired by his fiancée whose native name is Ekaette, describing his love for her in amazing ways and with clear word-picture. It’s also to show how endearing and beautiful the Akwa-Cross babes are beyond stereotypes.
