Nigerians have reacted to the claim by Mallam Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Buhari that the President’s 800 metres trek to his country home after the Eid-prayers in Daura, “is a prove of  his fitness and well-being to continue in office.”

In one of the response found on Twitter, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar took a swipe at the statement.

The Presidential Aspirant under the PDP in the forthcoming election in 2019, in a tweet shared a picture of him in the gym and said:

“I regularly jog more than a mile & exercise, but it will be pedestrian of me to ask Nigerians to vote for me because of that. I want my party – the PDP, and Nigerians, to vote for me because I WORK not because I WALK. I will work to create jobs. I won’t walk to create an illusion.”
