Ediongsenyene (bless what you have) Umoren better known as 8notes, is the perfect definition of a Prolific, Confident and also an Eccentric Mixing and Mastering Engineer, whose penchant is poise to redefine quality music production and harness better sound engineering.
8notes and according to him, the name represents an octave, there are 8 notes in the major scale of every key and all the world’s music can be found in between those ‘8′. Yes! He is actually the extra and the awesomeness Music needed and that is why he is breaking bounds and leading the new generation of amazing producers in the south as the poster boy.
Anytime you hear stammering signature of ‘8’ as ‘8-8-8-8’, you don’t need a prophet or a seer to trace the presence and footprints of the Akwa Ibom born emerging sound savvy that was born in the mid 90’s in the song.
About his sound, 8notes is a Hip Hop & RnB Producer, Mixing and Mastering Engineer who has been heavily influenced by what was formerly known as “Dirty South” music, now known as “Trap Music”. “Being Nigerian I have to fuse it with the afro-influence, but my music is rich in depth and low end…More bass and drums than percussions”, he says.
He is known for trap beats and for his signature sound, 8notes uses lots of pianos and according to him, “this is to humanize the music and bring soul into it. I grew up playing for church so the love of live sounding instruments affected my judgments too”, he adds.
Influencing his sound too, has been by a couple of artistes and producers in and outside the shores of Nigeria. They include DJ Mustard, Lex Luger, Acehood, Tory Lanez, Chris Brown and Masterkraft. “Growing up, I also listened to everything P-Square ever released, Wizkid came up and I listened to him a lot too although I have never been fully able to tap into his genre but I feel him a lot. I love Iyanya too. Great musician.”

The Akwa Ibom son, who hails from Ikot Ekpene, started making beats in 2012. In 2015 he met O’giveR (artiste and producer) who encouraged him to add mixing to his bag of skills. “He showed me the ropes and I’ve been mixing since then, I got better over time and mix more than I make beats, because mixing and mastering is more lucrative actually.
In his resume of peeps who he has worked with, 8notes said “I have either produced or mixed for some big names in Akwa Ibom like O’giveR, Leki, Ikpa Udo, Sagas, Zillions, David Millz, Emy P and so many others I Can’t think of right now. In Lagos I got a project out with Dremo on TV right now titled – Nobody. Also, unreleased tracks by Burna Boy, collab songs with Burna Boy out too, Jsongz, Yung6ix collab, Unreleased project with Slimcase, Phenom. A full song with Phyno is also in progress and other artists too you probably don’t know yet.”
8notes is definitely the new poster boy for young music engineers in Nigeria and soon he might bring home some awards for efforts.
