China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Thursday announced that over 1.26 billion mobile phones had been produced in the first eight months of the year, including 932 million smart phones.
The figures were announced during a summit on mobile innovation by Qiao Yueshan, with the ministry.
Qiao said China was among the world’s leading producers of smart phones and had produced 1.3bn mobile phones within the same frame of time last year.
“However, our smart terminal industry still faces challenges, such as the homogenisation of designs.
“Manufacturers of smart terminals should focus on research on core technology and seize opportunities in artificial intelligence, as well as prepare for the 5G network era,” Qiao said.
