In continuation of her free medical care for indigent persons of her constituency Hon. Mrs. Owoidighe Ekpoattai in conjunction with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Akwa Ibom branch, has brought succor to the people of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Over 500 patients on Wednesday received medical attention on various ailments at Ekpene Obo Cottage Hospital Esit Eket, Courtesy of the Law maker.
Our correspondent reports that 180 persons were tested and treated of eye problems while 50 were given eye glasses free of charge and over 250 patients were treated of malaria and typhoid related cases while over 200 other patients were tested and treated of some age related problems and 5 underwent surgery.
The free medical programme according to Hon. Prince Etebo, special assistant to Hon. Ekpoattai is scheduled to last for 3 days with drugs worth millions of Naira to be expanded on it.
Etebo said the programme has been running for the past two years and that Eket and Ibeno had their turn in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
He averred that over 3000 indigent persons has so far benefitted from the Law maker’s medical programme since inception in 2015 and that the programme is a way of touching the rural dwellers of Eket Federal constituency in terms of health and as a compliment to the State government’s effort in the health sector.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian medical Association, Dr. Anietie Ukpe commended the magnanimity of Mrs. Ekpoattai and assured that the Association has enough manpower and equipment to handle all cases during the outreach.
A beneficiary of the programme madam Nko Effiong who was treated of eye problems said, “God will bless Mma for his love to us the poor.
“How could I have been able to treat my eye problem without money? I have gone to a specialist hospital in Abak and I was asked to pay Fifty Thousand Naira”, she said.
Another patient Okon Peter who was operated upon of appendix thanked God for bringing Mrs. Ekpoattai to the people and prayed God to keep and bless her.
