Annually the 12th, August is marked as International Youth Day and the 2017 edition which will hold this Saturday with the theme “Youths Building Peace” is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.
This current generation is the largest in history and comprises of the majority in countries marked by armed conflict or unrest, therefore considering our needs and aspirations in matters of peace and security is a demographic imperative.
If you are in Uyo, one thing you can do is to join Youth Alive Foundation and other Civil Society Groups in a PEACE WALK to show that when we the youths are excluded from political, economic and social spheres and processes, it can be a risk factor for violence and violent forms of conflict. Our inclusion in the peace and security agenda and in society more broadly, is key to building and sustaining peace. Therefore, identifying and addressing our social exclusion as young people is a precondition for sustaining peace.
Dress Code for the PEACE WALK is White top on blue jeans. Take off point is by 9am at the IBB/ Akwa Ibom State Secretariat Roundabout through to Ibom Plaza. Souvenirs will be given on first come basis.
