This morning gun men entered the town of Ozubulu, precisely at St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwa Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State opened fire and killed several worshippers.
This happened during the 5:45 a.m. mass after they identified a particular man and shot him and later went on a shooting spree at the remaining worshippers who were numbered in their hundreds, while others were critically injured.
Bodies have since been deposited at the nearby Ozubulu Joint Hospital mortuary, while the injured were taken to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.
Some report say that the attack was religiously motivated, while Ifeanyi Aniagoh, SSA Social Media to the Anambra State governor in a tweet said that the caused by “Feud between Brothers from the community living Outside Nigeria”.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Garba Umar, confirmed the incident, adding that more details would be given after investigations.
St Philip’s which is reputed as a purposed built architectural masterpiece, a luxurious place of worship consecrated about two years ago by the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Most Rev Dr Odili Okeke.
